Amazon Teaming Up With Conexant to Bring Alexa to Third Party Manufacturers
Amazon is teaming up with semiconductor and voice solutions provider Conexant to bring Alexa to even more devices, the companies announced Thursday. The companies plan to expand the market of voice enabled digital assistants powered by Amazon's Alexa with the creation of the AudioSmart 2-mic Development Kit for smart home appliances. The kit is designed to connect to a Raspberry Pi, a small, credit-card sized computer which can be used in electronics projects. This will allow third-party manufacturers and developers to create Alexa-enabled devices to enable virtual assistance in products. The solution can be used to enable voice commands in home devices, such as smart speakers, thermostats, smart light bulbs and smart TVs, Conexant says.

Imagine grocery shopping without lines, cashiers and registers. That's what Amazon Go customers will experience soon, Amazon announced in a trailer Monday. Amazon Go is not your typical supermarket. Instead, customers use the Amazon Go app to shop and all they'll need is an Amazon account, a supported smartphone and the app. "Amazon Go is a new kind of store with no checkout required," Amazon said on its site.
Uber Acquires Startup Geometric Intelligence To Launch Its AI Division
Uber is coming closer to its self-driving cars goal. The ride-sharing company announced Monday it launched Uber AI Labs, a new department based in San Francisco which will focus on research in artificial intelligence and machine learning. Uber also revealed it has acquired the AI research startup Geometric Intelligence. The 15 members of the startup will form the primary core of the AI Labs team. With the company's new moves, Uber is betting that artificial intelligence could improve its services.
New Amazon AI Services Can Detect Images and Turn Text to Speech
Tightening up on the artificial intelligence race against Microsoft and Google, Amazon revealed new AI services, at the AWS re:Invent 2016 conference in Las Vegas on Wednesday. The services will help customers develop applications hosted on AWS that recognize images, add text-to-speech and implement technology from Amazon's Alexa's. Amazon Rekognition is a service that recognizes images. With Rekognition, developers can create applications that detect objects, scenes, and faces in images. It can also be used to search and compare faces.
